City of Orlando Proclaims August “Delivering Hope, Together Month”
August is officially “Delivering Hope, Together Month” in the City of Orlando.
The proclamation, presented by Orlando District 5 Commissioner Shan Rose, recognizes the work of Light Orlando, powered by the Åcahand Foundation, and its commitment to bringing people together through service, collaboration, and meaningful acts of hope throughout Central Florida.
The declaration was presented on Saturday, August 22, at the beginning of the 4th Annual Light Orlando Hunger Project: One Million Meal Build, an annual community-wide effort that brings together more than 2,000 volunteers to assemble one million nutritious meals for individuals and families experiencing food insecurity. The event is held in partnership with US Hunger and represents one of Light Orlando’s signature opportunities to demonstrate what can happen when a community comes together with a shared purpose.
The proclamation recognizes Light Orlando’s growing network of more than 90 nonprofit organizations and community partners, as well as the thousands of volunteers who have given their time to serve Central Florida.
In 2025 alone, Light Orlando mobilized 3,704 volunteers who contributed 11,373 hours of service, demonstrating the power of volunteerism and the impact that can be made when individuals, organizations, businesses, schools, faith communities, and government agencies work together.
The City of Orlando’s recognition of “Delivering Hope, Together Month” reflects the heart of Light Orlando’s mission: Delivering Hope, Together.
While the month of August provides an opportunity to formally recognize this work, the spirit behind the proclamation extends far beyond a single month. Through initiatives like the Hunger Project, Summer of Service, and year-round volunteer opportunities, Light Orlando continues to connect people with meaningful ways to serve their neighbors and strengthen the Central Florida community.

WHEREAS,
Light Orlando, powered by the Åcahand Foundation, was established in 2021 with the mission of uniting nonprofit organizations, faith communities, businesses, schools, government agencies, and volunteers to illuminate and inspire hope through collaborative acts of service that strengthen Central Florida; and
WHEREAS,
Guided by its belief that lasting change is achieved when people work together, Light Orlando has built partnerships with more than 90 nonprofit organizations and community partners, fostering collaboration that improves the lives of children, families, seniors, veterans, and individuals experiencing hardship throughout our region; and
WHEREAS,
In 2025 alone, Light Orlando mobilized 3,704 volunteers who contributed 11,373 hours of service, demonstrating the extraordinary impact that volunteerism and civic engagement have on building stronger, healthier communities; and
WHEREAS,
Each August, Light Orlando's signature Hunger Project brings together more than 2,000 volunteers to assemble over one million nutritious meals that are distributed through local charitable organizations to families facing food insecurity across Central Florida; and
WHEREAS,
Through its Summer of Service campaign and year-round volunteer opportunities, Light Orlando encourages residents, businesses, schools, faith communities, and civic organizations to dedicate their time, talents, and resources to serving others and strengthening the bonds that unite our community; and
WHEREAS,
Light Orlando exemplifies the values of compassion, generosity, collaboration, and civic responsibility by connecting volunteers with meaningful opportunities to serve and by inspiring hope through action; and
WHEREAS,
It is both fitting and proper to recognize Light Orlando powered by the Åcahand Foundation for its unwavering commitment to serving others and for its positive impact on the residents and communities of Central Florida;
NOW, THEREFORE, I, Commissioner Shan Rose, by virtue of the authority vested in me, do hereby proclaim the month of August as
“DELIVERING HOPE, TOGETHER MONTH”
in the City of Orlando.

This recognition is a meaningful milestone for Light Orlando and the thousands of volunteers, partners, and organizations who continue to show up and serve together.
From assembling one million meals to supporting local nonprofits and creating opportunities for people to give their time and talents, Light Orlando believes that when we work together, we can shine a light so bright the world can see it.
August may now officially be Delivering Hope, Together Month in the City of Orlando, but delivering hope is something this community can choose to do every day.
