We’re inviting you to be part of something big. Like, one million meals big.
On Saturday, August 23rd, Light Orlando will host our 3rd Annual Hunger Project: One Million Meal Build, and we need your hands, your heart, and your light to help make it happen.
What is The Hunger Project?
This is more than a food drive. It’s a powerful, one-day initiative where our community comes together to fight food insecurity in a big way. With the help of hundreds of volunteers from all walks of life, we’ll pack 1,000,000 meals in just a few hours; meals that will go directly over 75 local charities and organizations serving families in need across Central Florida.
When & Where?
Saturday, August 23, 2025
Event runs from 9:00 AM – 2:00 PM
Central Florida Fairgrounds, Expo Building, 4603 West Colonial Drive, Orlando, FL, USA
There are two volunteer shifts available:
9:00 AM – 12:00 PM
11:00 AM – 2:00 PM

What Will Volunteers Do?
Whether you come as an individual, a family, a team, or a church group, there's something for everyone:
Assemble veggie pasta meals in teams
Box over 5,500 cases of food
Load completed meals into vehicles for our 75+ charity partners
Assist with event clean-up
Bring joy, energy, and HOPE to the whole experience!
We’re also encouraging volunteers to bring shelf-stable protein donations- think canned tuna, chicken, or beef- to go along with the meals we’ll be packing. Every little bit helps feed our neighbors in need.
Why It Matters
Food insecurity continues to impact thousands of families in Central Florida. But together, we can shine a light into dark places by offering something as essential as a meal—and doing it with compassion, unity, and hope.
As Troy Wright, Program Officer with Light Orlando, emphasized, “Hunger does not discriminate. We all likely know someone struggling with food insecurity. However, populations that are already vulnerable and disadvantaged are at the greatest risk of being impacted by rising inflation and increased food costs.”
