On Saturday, August 22, 2026, more than 2,500 volunteers from across Central Florida came together with one shared goal: to help fight hunger in our community, and the results once again exceeded our expectations.
In one day, 1,009,800 meals were assembled and distributed to 68 Central Florida organizations catering to individuals and families experiencing food insecurity across Central Florida.
The Light Orlando 4th Annual Hunger Project: One Million Meal Build, however, was about more than reaching a number. It was about what happens when businesses, churches, schools, community organizations, families, and individuals come together with a shared purpose. And just like in years' past, Central Florida showed up.
Moving and Grooving Our Way to One Million Meals
This year's Hunger Project featured two shifts of service, welcoming a new group of volunteers for each shift.
The morning shift served from 8–11 a.m., followed by the afternoon shift from 11 a.m.–2 p.m. While each shift brought new volunteers through the doors, some dedicated volunteers chose to stay beyond their original shift and continue serving, doubling their impact.
Volunteers traveled from across Central Florida to take part, representing an incredible cross-section of our community. From high school lacrosse teams and hospital volunteer groups to restaurants, theme parks, businesses, churches, families, and community organizations, people from all walks of life came together to make a difference.
Volunteers didn't just assemble meals, they had a little fun while doing it. Emceed by Ramces Rouzard of In the Mirror Entertainment and energized by music from the In the Mirror Entertainment team, volunteers were encouraged to dance, sing, and keep moving throughout the event. Because serving together is even better when you can have a little fun along the way!
The Impact by the Numbers: Light Orlando's 4th Annual Hunger Project
Behind every statistic is a person, a family, or a community that will benefit from the generosity of Central Florida volunteers.
This year's Hunger Project resulted in:
1,009,800 meals assembled
2,500+ volunteers serving together
68 Central Florida organizations receiving meal donations
2,051 canned protein donations collected to further support our charity partners
The meals assembled during the event will be distributed through 68 local charitable and church organizations, helping provide nutritious food to neighbors experiencing food insecurity.
A Celebration of Service: America 250
The 2026 Hunger Project was especially meaningful as an America 250 Service Project.
In partnership with U.S. Hunger, Light Orlando's One Million Meal Build was proud to be part of America250's America Gives celebration, a nationwide initiative created to inspire volunteerism, acts of kindness, and charitable giving as the nation approaches its 250th anniversary. As part of the celebration, volunteers received a special-edition America 250 Light Orlando volunteer T-shirt to commemorate their role in this historic service initiative.
Orlando Proclaims “Delivering Hope, Together Month”
This year's Hunger Project also marked a meaningful milestone for Light Orlando and the community it serves. At the beginning of Saturday's event, Orlando District 5 Commissioner Shan Rose presented a proclamation officially declaring August as “Delivering Hope, Together Month” in the City of Orlando.
The proclamation recognizes the work of Light Orlando, powered by the Acahand Foundation, and its commitment to bringing people together through service, collaboration, and meaningful acts of hope throughout Central Florida. It also recognizes Light Orlando's growing network of more than 90 nonprofit organizations and community partners and the thousands of volunteers who have contributed their time and talents to serving the Central Florida community.
The proclamation highlights Light Orlando's signature Hunger Project, Summer of Service campaign, and year-round volunteer opportunities, which are all centered around one simple belief: When we work together, we can shine a light so bright the world can see it.
While August may now officially be “Delivering Hope, Together Month” in the City of Orlando, the spirit behind those words extends far beyond a single month.
The Little Things That Kept Volunteers Going
Of course, assembling more than one million meals takes a lot of energy!
Thankfully, our volunteers were well fueled throughout the day thanks to the generosity of our event partners and supporters.
Together, volunteers enjoyed:
1,200 donuts
More than 1,600 slices of pizza
4,000+ bottles of water
80 pounds of bananas
80 pounds of Cuties
50 pounds of oranges
100 pounds of apples, provided by our partners at 4Roots
That's a whole lot of snacks and a whole lot of energy put toward an even bigger purpose!
More Than One Million Meals
The numbers from this year's Hunger Project are impressive, but the true impact cannot be measured by meals alone. It's measured in the volunteer who showed up for a second shift because they knew there was more work to do. It's measured in the family that served together. It's measured in the high school students, businesses, churches, nonprofit organizations, and community groups that chose to spend their Saturday serving others.
It's measured in the 68 organizations that will carry these meals into communities where they are needed most. And it's measured in the thousands of people who now have a tangible reminder that they are not alone. That is what it means to deliver hope, together.
